Day 4 – Unity at the Augustinium

Today’s guest blogger is Sylena Mulligan-Burns, a freshman alto from Clay Center, KS.

Many of us started out our day by sleeping in just a little.  Others woke up with the sun. I was one of those, as I was awake 3 hours earlier than anyone else. I had time to think about all the experiences we have been able to enjoy all together as a group so far. Yesterday was a big experience for many, one that some may have never have had the opportunity to experience if we had not come on this trip.

Today we had the opportunity to explore Leipzig a little more. Some traveled in big groups, others in smaller pods. For me and my small pod we tried to take a train to a monument, but we couldn’t figure out how to get the tickets. So instead we walked around the train station and shopped at the different stores that were there. Then we walked and explored downtown and more of the city. We found currywurst which is a food that our tour guide wanted us to try.

Today was Leipzig’s hottest day so far this year, but we handled it just fine (see above). After lunch, we traveled from Leipzig to sing at the Augustinum, an upscale assisted living home just outside Berlin.

It had a very nice concert hall and we are told that many assisted living homes like this have concert halls. Since it was the hottest day many people didn’t come to the concert for various health reasons. It would have been easy to have a poor attitude because of this, but we came together in unity as one ensemble.  The audience was great!

Here is a scripture I find relevant to our day:  “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Colossians  3:13:14
